Making a NEW page
This page will teach you how to create a new page on this Wiki from scratch.
Make an Account
Please create an account by clicking "log in/create account" in the top right-hand corner. We would prefer contributors make an account so we know the source of information. We encourage you to create a page about yourself (use your full name). You can redirect your user page to the page about you by clicking your user name on the top right corner, hitting edit, and typing #REDIRECT [[Your Name]].
Where's the "New page" button?
Unfortunately, there's is no "New page" button. The simplest way to create a new page is to type in the exact phrase you want to create a page for into the search bar, and hitting "Go". If the page does not already exist, click the red link to that page and start typing! Wiki pages already have software to help you craft your own personal page.
Before Making a New Page
Before making a new page, make sure you do the following:
- Check to see if the article you want to create does not already exist. Search for it and look through the categories mentioned below.
- Check to see if the page you want to make fits in one of the categories on this page: Special:Categories
- If you believe it fits into a category, put it into the category (e.g. Section 4 Awards) by putting the following at the bottom of your page:
[[Category:Section 4 Awards]]
- The Wiki's article titles are case-sensitive, so capitalization matters. It is helpful to have a conventional method of titling articles for consistency, so title your article as you would title a real article, or an essay. Start words with capital letters, and use lowercase for short prepositions like "to" or "of".
- Good Title: Chuck Cruz Distinguished Fellowship Award
- Bad Title: Chuck Cruz distinguished fellowship award (this title would serve better as a redirect page to the above title)
- If an article has little content, seems incomplete, or is formatted inconsistently from similar articles, mark it as a stub.
- If you want to use an image, please upload it to the Wiki by clicking "Upload file" on the toolbox to the left. This is better than linking directly from Facebook, Photobucket, or other external sites because those links can stop working. Uploaded files can also be put into thumbnails, which will make your page look much nicer!
Some More Help
You'll quickly learn that there are commands that you can do to acquire a desired effect. If you're not comfortable using them, then don't! But learning them quickly gives you an edge to fully customize you very own WIKI page. To learn these commands, see Editing.
