Executive Committee
The Executive Committee or ExComm consists of the elected officers of Iota Phi, and chairs of the standing committees. ExComm is responsible for planning and executing all term programs and long-term projects. It does this mostly through the participation of other brothers in other committees run by the ExComm officers.
The following officers are members of ExComm:
- President
- Service Vice Presidents
- Membership Vice Presidents
- Fellowship Vice Presidents
- Finance Vice Presidents
- Pledge Masters
- Recording Secretaries
- Corresponding Secretaries
- Outreach Secretaries
- Historians
- Sergeants-At-Arms
- Chair to the Advisory Committee
History
Every chapter has an Executive Committee or Executive Board, often shortened to "ExComm", "E-Board", or "Exec". After rechartering in 1962, Iota Phi's ExComm consisted of eight officer positions with only one individual holding each: President, First Vice-president, Second Vice-president, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Sergeant-at-Arms. Based on an officer list from Spring 1968, while no officer was elected to chair other committees, chairmen existed for Service, Fellowship, Newsletter, Publicity, Finance, Membership, Telephone, Constitutional Review, and Program Committees. It can be inferred that the First Vice-president was chair of the Service Projects Committee whereas the Second Vice-president was chair of the Membership Committee. Presumably, since no Pledge Master position existed, the Pledge class was most likely managed by Membership Committee, just as at many other chapters.
Between 1968 and 1998, Iota Phi's ExComm structure radically changed. First, the chapter removed the First and Second Vice-president positions and added a Service Vice President, Membership Vice President, Fellowship Vice President, Pledge Masters, and Public Relations officers. The First and Second Vice-president positions existed at least through Fall 1977. Second, after taking in suggestions in Fall 1989, every officer position except President was broadened to allow at least two officers per position. This can be attributed to the ballooning pledge classes sizes of 60+ compared to the small class size of twelve pledges in Spring 1968.
In the 2000s, Iota Phi expanded its secretarial roster. During Fall 2006, the chapter officially added the Press Secretary as an executive office to replace the old Public Relations Chair position. The chapter rationalized this change in hopes of developing the position to further expand Iota Phi's relationship with local media. In Spring 2008, the chapter voted to make the position of Alumni Secretary an official executive office. This position would attempt to strengthen the chapter's relationship with its own alumni. Lastly, in Spring 2015, the Press Secretary and Alumni Secretary positions became combined to create the Outreach Secretary. At this point, Iota Phi's executive committee structure had reached its most modern form.
