Spring Fling

Purpose

The purpose of Spring Fling is to have Alpha Phi Omega members offer time to play with the children of disadvantaged schools in Davis, Woodland, Winters, West Sacramento, and Sacramento.

History

In Spring 2003, Service Vice President Christina Huen wanted to develop Iota Phi's ties with Head Start rather than seeing them only once per year. The success of Santa 4 Kids over several years had inspired her to create an equivalent Spring project, so she contacted Head Start about Spring Fling. The first ever Spring Fling marked an Iota Phi annual tradition, since it was continued by each Spring Service Vice President that followed.

Trivia

• Since the first Spring Fling was an Easter-themed event, Christina Huen contacted the City of Davis and got to borrow their rabbit costume for free. Members also boiled hundreds of eggs and dyed them in different colors.
