Rho Pi
History
The following is a history as written by members of Rho Pi.[1]
The Rho Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at the University of California, San Diego, was originally chartered on February 5th, 1967 as an all-male fraternity. Because of the Vietnam War, male students were drafted and the chapter was closed down. Despite numerous attempts by students to recharter the chapter after the war ended, Rho Pi was unable to pick up where it left off.
Rho Pi remained out of the scene until April 17th, 1994 when a female student, named Bella Fong, from the Iota Phi chapter at UC Davis decided to re-charter our chapter. Because of the Promise of '76 (which stated that chapters chartered after 1976 would allow females into APO) our all-male fraternity was re-chartered as a co-ed fraternity. Due to the growth of Rho Pi chapter, it has been divided into five families: Alpha, Phi, Omega, Rho, and Pi.
