A set of things that are required of Pledges (Pledge Requirements) or Actives (Active Requirements) to attain certain statuses. Pledges fulfill pledge requirements to be considered for active status. Actives fulfill active requirements to retain active status.

Rules

Active and Pledge requirements must adhere to certain rules so as to avoid instances of hazing because it would be against risk management to break such rules. Officers should be responsible for reading and understanding conditions stipulated by National Pledging Standards, the National Pledge Trainer Handbook, and National Membership Policy as found on Alpha Phi Omega's national website. In order to give Actives and Pledges a better idea of their rights as members, below are a few highlights of rules set on the National level.

  • For all required items that both Actives and Pledges have to complete to obtain Active status, Active and Pledge requirements must be set at an equal amount.
    • E.g. Active Requirements cannot stipulate 18 hours of service if Pledge Requirements stipulate 20 required hours.
  • Extra requirements cannot be added by any officer without a vote from the Active body, not even as punishment.
  • By the National Pledge Trainer Handbook, there may be specific pledges that fail to complete certain requirements due to extenuating circumstances, so the chapter should be flexible in providing an opportunity to fulfill some alternative requirement.
  • Pledges cannot be de-pledged for any reason other than breaking risk management or failing to fulfill requirements as stated on a Pledge Requirement sheet and all attachments voted in by the Active body. Attachments may include, for example, a signature sheet, a strikes policy, or a pledging contract.
