Ocho Award
Description
First awarded at the Spring 2007 Sectionals hosted at Iota Phi, the Ocho is given out by Section Staff to any active brother within the Section who visits 8 or more different chapters within one year, measured from one Spring Sectionals to the next. The award was created by then-section chair Aaron Lipton, in order to better recognize those brothers that are especially active within the section, and to narrow down the grab-bag approach of the Bright Spot Award. The application forms are distributed to chapters in the spring, along with the gold pan forms.
The award was partially inspired by the IC Award, and it's success in Iota Phi, at the time, of increasing interchapter involvement. Doubling the amount of chapters to be visited, as well as the time to visit them in, appeared to be a reasonable number brothers could pursue; difficult enough to warrant recognition, possible enough to spur action.
