"Letters" mean Greek letters or symbols such as Α Φ Ω - ΙΦ (Alpha Phi Omega- Iota Phi)
- Only actives who have crossed may wear letters. Pledges are not allowed to own letters. While the status of Α Φ Ω as letters is incontestable, there is some discussion whether ΙΦ is properly referred to as letters. It is of course permitted (and encouraged) for a pledge to have Alpha Phi Omega or Iota Phi spelled out in the English Alphabet.
- Letters are often given to pledges after their activation by Big Bros.
- Big bros sometimes give their little bros letters in the form of a sweatshirt or jacket if they are able to afford it.
- People commonly wear class t-shirts or small paddles around their neck.
