Big Bro Appreciation Week

Big Bro Appreciation week traditionally followed secret week, and was marked on the pledge calendars included in pledge binders. Generally, some sort of event was planned during the week, particularly Chevy's Fundraisers. However, far more normative was for Pledges to do small things for their bigs, such as getting them lunch or making dinner.

During S2k3, the Pledge Parents wanted to de-emphasize the pecuniary nature of the big bro-little bro relationship, and did not include it on the calendars Fu class received. Furthermore, the Pledge Parents felt that a designated week really caused more stress than helped create meaningful relationships. While pledges were still encouraged to ackowlednge their bigs' time and energy, no designated time or structure was suggested.

A Big Bro Appreciation Week was something that West Class (F2K4) pledges Miyama Ishii, Caroline H. Nguyen, and Monlia Wu devised and was implimented with the help of the pledge class as a whole. These pledges were told that there was something called 'big bro appreciation' where the littles would show their appreciation for their big's role in secret week. Being the amazing class that they were, the West Class littles dedicated a WHOLE WEEK of fun and excitement to replicate secret week for their bigs.

The week began at a meeting with a "family revealing" style of adorning the big bro with head gear (hat, visor, mask, etc), some sort of apparel (i.e cape, hula skirt, leis, underwear) and noisemakers of some sort. The week continued with "family events" and Sneak at some point in the middle of the week. Overall, BBAW was a big success as was Sneak.
