Adopted Big Bro
A adopted big bro traditionally applies in a case in which some or all of these conditions are met:
- The Lil bro may have gotten a big bro who is not around or may not be around in the immediate future.
- An older active happens to connect well with a pledge, and even if they are not paired as Big Bro and Lil Bro, they may choose to create a link between themselves.
- And so on...
Naturally, this adoption is not official to the family lines or trees. The main purpose was to lend support to another Brother and help make their experience in APO a good one. The adoption process typically happens when they are pledging, but conditions can occur where another active can take in another active by ways of adoption. Usually the adopted big bros take responsibility for their new adopted Lil Bros. This could include talking with them, hanging out, helping them cross, preparing them for grilling, treating them to meals, taking them out, and, on a few rare occasions, the giving of gifts.
NOTE: The previously mentioned adoption ways and criteria has laxed, and the adoption process has been a way to signify a friendship or bond. However, some people should be cautious on who they choose to adopt, because some old school actives could take offense to this, because it could be interpreted as a sign that they, the big bro, is not doing their job. Naturally, this practice of adoption seems to become a more common practice, to show affection to another younger pledge during their first term.
