"Letters" mean Greek letters or symbols such as Α Φ Ω - ΙΦ (Alpha Phi Omega- Iota Phi)

Only actives who have crossed may wear letters. Pledges are not allowed to own letters. While the status of Α Φ Ω as letters is incontestable, there is some discussion whether ΙΦ is properly referred to as letters. It is of course permitted (and encouraged) for a pledge to have Alpha Phi Omega or Iota Phi spelled out in the English Alphabet.
Letters are often given to pledges after their activation by Big Bros.
Big bros sometimes give their little bros letters in the form of a sweatshirt or jacket if they are able to afford it.
People commonly wear class t-shirts or small paddles around their neck.
