Official Duties

The Service VP's official duties are of the following:

  1. To serve as chairperson of the Service Committee.
  2. To serve as president pro-tempore in the absence of the president.
  3. To facilitate communication with the pledge class through its elected pledge service coordinators.
  4. To appoint a service project chairperson for each service event.
  5. To compile a listing of up-to-date service contacts and project listings including evaluation reports on organizations and said projects for at least the prior four (4) terms.
  6. To make sure any national service report, such as the National Service Week report or the Spring Youth Service Day report, is submitted to the National Office on time.
  7. To create at least one project per year with one of Alpha Phi Omega's National Partners.
  8. To prepare a service term report for the next service vice president.
  9. To perform other duties as directed by the chapter president.
  10. To perform all other duties as specified by the National Handbook for Service Vice Presidents.

In Practice

While also upholding their duties as stated in the bylaws, there are also responsible for numerous other things. Some of these responsibilities extend from the bylaws whereas others were put in place through tradition:

  • Propose Service Guidelines for the term, featuring any punishments or systematic changes to the service program.
  • To ensure that the actives and pledges have an adequate number of service projects and hours to fulfill their requirements.
  • To contact coordinators concerning new service projects.
  • To ensure that service projects are tracked for the term.
  • To oversee service projects that actives may create.
