Kappa Sigma is the California State University Sacramento chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.

History

Beginnings

The following is a history of Kappa Sigma provided by Kappa Sigma members:[1]

On June 7, 1952, the Kappa Sigma Chapter was established at Sacramento State College, The charter members included 27 students and 8 advisors. When first established, the chapter was meeting at Sacramento Junior College, where the State College held its classes from 1947 until 1953.

The chapter had a successful program of service projects and activities during its first 13 years. Among the chapter's accomplishments was the reestablishment of Iota Phi Chapter at the University of California, Davis in 1962. By 1965, Kappa Sigma Chapter had inducted 176 members, when it was declared inactive by the national fraternity. Numerous attempts to reactivate the chapter were unsuccessful.

Rechartering

In early 1982, Iota Phi Chapter held an informational meeting for students interesting in restarting the Kappa Sigma Chapter at California State University, Sacramento. Two interested CSUS students were present, Charles Gibbon and John Shaw. In April, Charles Gibbon attended the Sectional Conference hosted by Gamma Gamma Chapter where he learned more about the Alpha Phi Omega program.

In October 1982, an organizing group consisting of Charles Gibbon, Paul Bryant, and Todd Rehfuss formed with the support of Iota Phi chapter members and Sectional Chairman John Jones. These three students gained on-campus status for Alpha Phi Omega and held the chapter's first meeting November 3, 1982.
