He may not be as cultured or refined as his firlfriend Olive Oyl would like him to be, but, as he puts it, "I yam what I yam" - a hard working, good-natured sailor. Popeye is fundamentally honest and loyal with an absolute belief in right and wrong. Treat him well and he's your best friend; double-cross him and you might just catch a spinach-powered right hook to the chops!
