Family Line

Refers to the string of LBs, LB^s, and so on that can be traced back to one individual person, similar to a family tree. The numbering style for determining the relation of someone to someone else used in Iota Phi is dependent on superscripts:
- BB: your big bro
- BB^2: your big bro's big bro
- BB^3: your big bro's big bro's big bro
Likewise,
- LB: your lil bro
- LB^2: your lil bro's lil bro
- LB^3: your lil bro's lil bro's lil bro
And so on... Because a family line will continue to build as long as you have active members, some family lines can be fairly large (see Minh's line).
Other chapters may use a different system of determining relations. One example is as follows:
- Big: your big bro
- Grand big: your big bro's big bro
- Great grand big: your big bro's big bro's big bro
- Great great grand big: your big bro's big bro's big bro's big bro
