Parents' Night Out
Parents' Nite Out (PNO) is a project that was originally thought of and created by Genie Le and Clayton Luu. The basis of this project is to provide parents of special needs kids in the Yolo County area a night of rest and relaxation as well as provide their children and teens with the opportunity to interact with persons closer to their own age in a safe environment. The audience served by PNO is largely the same as that of Dance for Kids.
Parents' Nite Out was hosted once a month and allows kids to participate in crafts and activities organized by the coordinators for the kids to get to know and interact with one another.
This project was originally done as part of Fong-Quan Class's Pledge Class Projects. Seeing the potential and realizing what needed to be done to allow this project to impact as many lives as possible, Clayton Luu attempted to take this project to the next level. After discussion with Alternative Recreation of Davis in the Fall of 2006, Iota Phi decided to partner with the City of Davis and settle into a permanent location. After months of hopping from one apartment complex lounge to another, Parents' Nite Out settled at the Davis Teen Center, located on the corner of 3rd and B Street.
With tremendous help from the PNO Assistant Coordinator Drew Mayen a member of Alpha Phi Omega's Iota Phi chapter, the event had grown to have around 15 participants regularly with around 25-30 children who have participated in the event.
Parent's Nite Out is currently an on-and-off project, occurring when Iota Phi members are able to launch it.
