The BASOOS aka The Benevolent and Spirited Order of Oil and Sand, is an award that was created after a harrowing trip to a national convention during which the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere/desert. The brothers going banded together and still made it to the convention despite their travelling woes. Thus the BASOOS was created and given to people in the chapter who have shown excellent spirit and passion for the chapter. It is an award that is passed from one recipient to the next when the holder feels someone is deserving (usually when someone goes above and beyond their call of duty as an officer or as an active).

*The Schroeder term requirements and ideals are very similar to [[Hancock class]] since it was the best class ever!

*Pledges were required to do 80 interviews total to ensure that pledges spoke to and hopefully got to know as many actives (new & old) & pledges as possible.

*[[Clayton Luu|Clayton]] always felt that if the pledges that could survive his harsh pledge program, they would be good actives.

*All pledges were required to go to pledge retreat in order to cross, no exceptions.

*11 potential members did not pledge because they were not able to go to pledge retreat.

*Had one of the best pledge retreats in Iota Phi history. The Schroeder term pledge retreat somehow managed to dodge [[the pledge parent curse]] with near perfect weather and camping conditions.

*Schroeders had the retreat that every [[Pledge Parent]] wanted: Good weather, no hyperthermia etc…

*Schroeder class had the highest retention rate in a decade with 91.83%. 45 out of 49 pledges that activated returned the following term and paid active dues.

Youth Service Grant

*What is the Youth Service Grant?
The National Office created APO Youth Service Grant Program to provides funds, in the form of a grant, for Alpha Phi Omega Chapters. Each year, grants are awarded to qualifying Chapters to conduct a service project that relates to socially positive programs for pre-college-age youth. The Alpha Phi Omega Endowment Trust facilitates the funding for this special program.

The APO Youth Service Grant Review Committee evaluates the applications and funds as many appropriate projects as available monies will allow. Grants range from $100 to $500 each. The committee will notify all Chapters submitting applications when selections have been determined.

*Eligibility
All Chapters of Alpha Phi Omega in good standing, as defined by the National Bylaws, may apply for an APO Youth Service Grant. No Chapter may receive an award more than twice in a five-year period. Maximum grant per Chapter is $500. A Chapter may submit only one application, for one project or program, per grant year.

*Timeline
The application for the Youth Service Grant is usually submitted during the Fall term and the chapter is notified if awarded the grant sometime in the Spring term.

Parents' Nite Out is a project that was originally thought of and created by [[Genie Le]] and [[Clayton Luu]].

The basis of this project is to provide parents of special needs kids in the Yolo County area a night of rest and relaxation as well as provide their children and teens with the opportunity to interact with persons their age in a safe enviroment.

Parents' Nite Out is hosted once a month and allows kids to participate in crafts and activities organized by the coordinators for the kids to get to know & interact with one another.

This project was originally done as part of [[Fong-Quan Class|Fong-Quan]]'s Pledge Class Projects. Seeing the potential and realizing what need to be done to allow this wonderful project to impact as many lives as possible, [[Clayton Luu]] attempted to take this project to the next level. After discussion with [[Alternative Recreation]] of Davis in the fall of 2006, we decided to partner with the City of Davis and settle into a permanent location.

After months of hoping from one apartment complex lounges to another, Parents' Nite Out now calls the [[Davis Teen Center]], located on the corner of 3rd and B, home.

With tremendous help from the PNO Assistant Coordinator Senor [[Drew Mayen]] an member of Alpha Phi Omega, Iota Phi chapter, this event has grown to have around 15 participants regularly with around 25-30 kids who have participated in the event.

Awards and Accomplishments

*It was his vision that brought about [[Dance for Kids]] as an annual event. But the very first [[Dance for Kids]] couldn't have been started and accomplished without the help of the F2K3 Service VPs ([[Christopher Takemori]] and [[Michelle Jaromay]]) and the [[Youth Service Grant]] they applied for.

*Numerous [[Sturdy Oak]] awards

*Recieved the [[Legendary BASOOS]] from Drew Mayen for his on-going contributions the Iota Phi Chapter and it's service program.

*Took a pledge group project envisioned by [[Genie Le]] & refined it into a monthly service project co-sponsored by the city of Davis entitled [[Parents' Nite Out]].
